July 20th, 2010 at 10:19 pmHaving been involved with the production (to a very small degree I might add), I was incredibly eager to finally watch Themba on the big screen. Having originally being so moved by the screenplay and Stefanie’s passion to bring the story to life, I was more than curious to see how it all turned out.
From the word go, i was taken on an emotional and transfixing journey through brilliant storytelling, masterful directing, beautiful cinematography and astounding acting.
The sights and sounds of township life was heartbreaking and i could not stop the tears from rolling over and over again, with every heartbeat of Themba’s life and his journey to save his family and make something of himself.
The rawness, openess, honesty and simplicity of it all was so touching and moving.
Every now and then there was a little humour for the audience to catch their breathe, wipe their tears and continue being captivated.
Themba truly is one of the masterpieces of South African cinema, with a strong and important message – a reality check for some – and for others an eye opener to the realties facing communities and the world in general.
Thank you Stefanie and everyone at DO Productions for being so brave and strong and determined to bring this story to life.
I take my hat off to you – Congratulations. May this film travel the world and achieve every bit of possible success that it so richly deserves.
